Chef Ed’s Loaded Sloppy Joe Plate

Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joe:
- 2 lbs ground beef (go big or go home)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 large sandwich buns or brioche buns
For the Fries:
For the Cole Slaw:
- 1/2 head green cabbage, finely shredded
- 1 large carrot, grated
- 1/4 cup mayo
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Sloppy Joe:
- Heat oil in a large skillet. Add ground beef and brown thoroughly, breaking up as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté 5–6 minutes until soft.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire, mustard, and brown sugar. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until thick and meaty.
- Season with salt and pepper. Keep warm until serving.
Fries:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Toss fries with olive oil, paprika, salt, and pepper. Spread on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
Cole Slaw:
- In a large bowl, mix cabbage and carrot.
- In a separate bowl, whisk mayo, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Combine dressing with cabbage mix. Chill until serving.
To Serve:
Scoop a mountain of sloppy joe onto each bun. Serve hot with fries on the side and a cool pile of slaw to balance the heat.
